Katsukai-Do

Country: Espana

Founder: Soke Adolfo Gomez Gutierrez

7th Dan in Katsukai-Dô

6th Dan Buguei,

5th Dan Karate Shukokai

4th Dan Self Defense Police

International master.

Year of creation: 1998

Style motto: Sen no sen o espíritu de anticipación

Objectives: I understand that the practitioner of this must follow the path of Bushido, in this way to become a samurai of the 21st century.

That is why it has the duty to put into practice all the values of Bushido that can be applied today, and in a social, civic and ethical context adapted to our times.

We are governed by a code, which is defined within a trilogy, and consists of three elements and which are: Peace, Harmony, Controlled Force:

• Peace, it extends to all levels from men to men.

• Harmony, is the fullness of being able to be and belong to everything that surrounds us.

• Controlled force, I understand that the human being to defend himself, even in our days uses physical force, for that reason I preach that as far as possible we neutralize that impetus of unjustified force, in order to reach a peaceful solution.

Antecedents of the system: Karate, Muay Thai, Buguei, Wing Tsun, as well as a high content of Kyusho, are some of the Martial Arts from which some of their techniques take Katsukai-Dô, although it has philosophy, and own techniques, since it is a system of personal defense in constant evolution.

Description: ¿What is Katsukai-Do?

The Katsukai-Do is a modern martial art integrated within the Gendai Budo (Modern Martial Art) that encompasses several disciplines.

We could say that the base that supports all this compendium and hierarchical organizational structure is Japanese, for this reason it is expressed in the language of the country of the rising sun.

The concept of "defense by defense" does not exist, the best defense is an attack, although we must clarify that the "action-reaction" must be perfectly balanced, since unlike many martial arts and combat systems we do not contemplate "everything" okay".

So we rely heavily on the terminology "Sen not sen" which means more or less, "spirit of anticipation", so we must dose the reaction to any reaction and manage the defense strategy.

The Katsukai-Do also has in its learning the handling of weapons, such as: bo, nunchaku, tonfa, sai, and kei-jo.

Ketsugo Goshin-Jutsu

Translation: Mixed self-defense techniques

Country: USA

Founder: Christopher J. Lowery

Year of creation: 2011, Officially recognized as a system in 2013 by GM Robert Shook.

Style motto:  Never Give Up!

Background of system: A blend of Okinawan Karate, Japanese Jiu-jitsu and Judo.

Description:

Sensei Christopher Lowery has trained diligently in the martial arts since Introduced to Isshin Ryu Karate by Dan Holloway in 1992. Since that time, he has been privileged to train with Randy Brown, Ronald Nick, Jeffrey Bryant , Michael Gibbs and Donn Schucker.

In 2010 after devoting a great deal of study time and actual hard physical training to the striking arts, Sensei was promoted to the rank of yondan (4th degree black belt) by Sensei Jeff Bryant.

As he progressed through the ranks of the striking arts, Sensei began to realize that something was missing. Although he had trained very hard and competed with some of the best fighters on the tournament circuit, he tired of the overly restrictive competition rules and limited technical skills allowed in the ring.
What was missing from his training was the real world, no rules practice that determines who survives in an actual life and death physical confrontation.
Sensei Lowery set about to remedy this situation by expanding his skills to include experience in the Japanese arts, which to a large degree utilized skills, techniques, and strategies that were completely absent in the striking arts.
Joint locks, strangle holds, takedowns, and groundwork – these are all important skills that not only are likely to be needed in a physical confrontation, but also train the individual to achieve a newfound sense of awareness with regard to his surrounding, his attacker, and his own martial skills.
It takes decades to acquire a high level of expertise in all martial endeavors, and it can be said of Sensei Lowery that he has done his time. He now prefers good old fashioned hard core, no frills, nor rules training. He will not limit himself to any one type of technique and now arms himself with all the skills that a warrior must possess to prevail in combat. He knows that if attacked, he is fully equipped for the battle, because he realizes he will not be fighting another sport martial artist for a trophy – this could be against an individual who wants to end his life!!!
Bottom line for Sensei Christopher Lowery – he is not interested in sport competitions, trophies, championships, etc. and has nothing to prove to anyone except himself.
"How you train is how you will defend yourself."
 Train well!
